1994 - PRESENT
PRESIDENT, CEO, EXECUTIVE CONSULTANT
PROJECT MANAGEMENT TRAINING, CONSULTING, IMPLEMENTATION
THE PROJECT MAN, TUSTIN, CA
Aside from my overall role as the CEO and President of The Project Man, I am actively involved as a hands-on Executive Consultant and/or Team Lead in ongoing efforts to assist companies successfully implement modern project management methodologies, principles, and practices. These efforts are always supported via the proper implementation of the latest project management software tools. On some of our larger programs this has involved the successful development of Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) that support program-wide Integrated Master Plans (IMP) that ultimately integrate with and support Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) based Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS). This total system integration perspective has been the key to helping clients successfully avoid or resolve painful Corrective Action Requests (usually associated with the withholding of Contract Award Fees). This usually involves intensive efforts to either correct or quickly create new dynamic Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules in support of their overall Program Planning and Control requirements.
Most recently I have successfully lead and supported IMS system implementation teams on Lockheed Martin's Joint Strike Fighter (JSF/F-35) program, as well as Pratt & Whitney's JSF/F135 Propulsion System program. This included schedule development support and cross-company IMS integration involving team members such as Hamilton Sundstrand and Rolls-Royce. During this same period I have been involved in providing support and ongoing training at Sikorsky Aircraft in support of various helicopter programs.
While I am fluent in several CPM scheduling and EVMS software tools, I specialize in implementing Microsoft Project as either a corporate or program-wide project management scheduling standard. I have also successfully supported implementations of Artemis and Primavera. This includes hands-on system implementation and support services, consulting, as well as the development and delivery of custom training programs designed to introduce and promote Best Practice project planning, scheduling, and management methods.
From 1995 thru 2000 I was the exclusive Microsoft Project trainer at Boeing North American (previously Rockwell Aerospace). This included training more than 1500 executives, managers, engineers, and project support personnel involved in various satellite, aircraft, and spacecraft projects. Other large organizations I have supported include Boeing/Rocketdyne, McDonnell Douglas, NASA, Toshiba, Neutrogena, Reebok, Avery Dennison, and Southern California Gas. I have also provided support to various small and medium size high-tech manufacturing, software development, and construction related businesses.
Other efforts include the support of Lockheed Martin's Integrated Cost and Schedule (ICAS) team in the design, testing, training, and implementation of their enterprise-wide Project Scheduling and Earned Value Management System used to support the F-117, F-16, and C-130 programs, and used in the initial stages of the JSF/F-35 program; as well as training support for the US Army Tank Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) and Aerojet.
1990 - 1994
MARKETING AND TECHNICAL PRODUCT SPECIALIST
ARTEMIS INTERNATIONAL SOLUTIONS CORPORATION, IRVINE, CA
In the late 1980's and early 1990's Artemis International Solutions Corporation (previously Métier Management Systems) was the world's leading provider of enterprise-wide, mainframe based project management software tools and consulting services, and was listed among the top twenty largest software companies in the world. In 1990, when Artemis turned its attention to the emerging personal computer marketplace, I was hired to facilitate the introduction and integration of these new personal computer products into the western United States and Canada.
While at Artemis I supported customers such as Boeing, Lockheed, Hughes, Rockwell and Northrop, assisting in their transition from highly centralized mainframe based software to distributed personal computer based software tools. As a result I understand the cultural changes, resistance, and issues that arise when organizations transition from centrally controlled legacy systems and begin to decentralize and distribute the responsibility for complex project planning, scheduling, and control out and down to the individual product development teams. Because of this experience, as well as my extensive involvement with customers newly implementing formal project management (such as Pacific Bell and WordPerfect) I also understand the project management discipline and software training required for new system implementations to succeed.
My responsibilities included providing and/or performing need analysis, requirements definition, consulting, support, and implementation services. This included setting up custom training programs to help support product and system implementation, as well as providing internal training at Artemis to support marketing presentations and product launches. These responsibilities required, and helped further develop, both a broad range and a unique combination of management, presentation, communication, training, and technical skills.
1986 - 1990
PRODUCT MARKETING MANAGER
PRIMETIME SOFTWARE, INC, COSTA MESA, CA
My responsibilities included managing and/or participating in market analysis, requirements gathering and definition, product and package design, documentation, as well as the marketing of a personal computer based scheduling software tool. I established a national dealer and distributor network, supervised advertising and public relations, and coordinated product seminars, demonstrations, and training.
